Verdant is looking for an individual who is passionate about the energy transition and looking for an opportunity to affect public policy with rigorous data-driven analysis. Verdant’s Principal/Senior Principal applies expertise in research and analysis to contribute to the development and implementation of unbiased data driven methodologies that include survey and market research, data verification and visualization, statistical analysis, and reporting. The position uses analytical tools including Python and/or R to implement quantitative and qualitative data analysis to provide our clients with independent and statistically sound findings and recommendations. Principals/Senior Principals are expected to work collaboratively and independently with internal and external project teams. They are expected to lead discussions with utilities and regulators, helping to shape programs, policies, and research. Principals/Senior Principals participate in many phases of Verdant’s work including mentoring analysts, development of methodological approaches, leading the implementation of analyses, and communicating with clients.
Responsibilities
- Work within a diverse project team to deliver research findings, data analysis, and program evaluations.
- Design, develop and maintain large-scale databases for research efforts.
- Determine study approaches including project focus, data development, sample designs, statistical methods, and the development of surveys and interview guides.
- Manage large and medium sized projects with complicated approaches, data sources, client deliverables and meetings, and internal teams.
- Contribute to business development including leading proposals, contributing to bid decisions, maintaining a network of professional contacts, and presenting at conferences.
- Lead and manage analysis of data that may include secondary and confidential data sources, survey data, energy usage data, utility billing information, energy production data, weather data, and technology-specific information. Lead data quality control and cleaning techniques where needed.
- Lead the development of tools to analyze data and create data-driven solutions to solve challenging climate and energy problems.
- Design and lead statistical approaches for sample design, quantitative data analysis, and statistical modeling.
- Design and lead process approaches including the development of surveys and interview guides, sample designs, and rigorous data analysis.
- Manage projects with limited direction, including updating partners, managing personnel and budget needs, and the development of client facing products.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as computer science, data science, mathematics, economics, environmental studies, or statistics.
- Minimum of ten+ years of experience with statistical analysis and interpretation of data findings.
- Experience with project and personnel management.
- Experience working with clients, leading evaluation plan development and presenting plans, findings, and recommendations.
- Experience successfully contributing to business development.
- Extensive experience with analysis methods, the ability to determine the appropriate method to answer a question, and the ability to communicate these decisions to others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating ideas and findings to clients and working effectively with remote team members.
- Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks with good time management and communication.
- Experience developing research plans and methodological and/or statistical approaches and the ability to execute plans and approaches.
- Independent decision maker who can grasp concepts quickly and work collaboratively.
Working Conditions
Depending on location, Verdant employees work remotely, hybrid, or in an office setting.
Salary and Benefits
- The job provides a competitive salary that is dependent on education and experience. The salary range for this position is $135,000-$250,000 plus eligible for Verdant’s variable incentive program which is a cash bonus based on company and individual performance.
