The Heat Pump Water Heater Research study is conducted by Verdant Associates and kW Engineering for the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). In collaboration with the Association for Energy Affordability and Energy Solutions, who implemented and administered the rebates for your apartment’s new water heaters.
For this research study, we request data from the Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) installed in your apartment. This study will assist the CPUC in making future policy decisions to improve water heating and enhance the electricity grid’s reliability. To verify the legitimacy of this request, please visit:
Any data collected from the water heater will be anonymized and presented only in aggregate (for example, data will not be presented for just one
water heater but will be the average of all water heaters analyzed). During the study, the Time-of-Use (TOU) schedule optimization for your water heater will be temporarily paused 2-3 times. However, this will not impact your water heater performance or the availability of hot water.
As a token of our appreciation for your participation in and support of our research, we will send you a $100 gift card upon successfully sharing your water heater’s data. The gift card will be sent to the email you provide within two weeks of your signup.
We have partnered with Rheem, who has set up a portal to facilitate the transfer of your water heater data through your EcoNet app account. To complete the data-sharing process, please follow the link below and log in to your EcoNet app account. We have included directions with screenshots below the link to help you navigate setup and data sharing.
